Never before have I trembled at the word "Witchiling" like I did reading these books.
Harper L. Woods has made us all want to make a deal with the devil (among other things)
A dark, spicey enemies to lovers romance with dark academia themes - this should be a book that ticked all the boxes, and whilst our dark and demanding MMC had me shifting in my seat for all the right reasons, I found our FMC to just be lacking.
Their first encounter gave us a taste of a badass FMC who wouldn’t take crap from anyone, let alone some male who wanted to control and dominate her. I was desperately excited to continue experiencing the push and pull of their relationship, but what I ended up getting was the devolution from badass babe to simpering schoolgirl. In the end our FMC, who had trained her whole life, couldn’t have put up less of a fight, reduced to nothing more than a slave to her own desires.
Whilst disappointing the book was enjoyable and an easy read, the world building was nothing to write home about but the story flowed. A good palate cleanser while waiting for something “more” to come along.
